Cortisol the stress hormone in 2 mins!

In this video, Dr Matt explains how cortisol affects the body during stress.

Cortisol:

The primary role of cortisol is to maintain blood glucose. It does that a few different ways:

1️⃣ Protein Catabolism

This can involve breaking down muscle proteins.

2️⃣ Gluconeogenesis

Aka making new glucose out of amino acids.

3️⃣ Lipolysis

The breakdown of fats. Specifically separating glycerol from the fatty acids.

4️⃣ Immunosuppression

Cortisol can downregulate the rate at which the body is building antibodies.

🧘🏽‍♂️ Take a deep breathe and make sure you’re getting enough sleep to keep cortisol where we want it.
